FEBRUARY 2012

North Pier in the village of Newlyn in Penzance, Cornwall has become HeartSafe® - for Sat Nav users the post code is TR18 5JB. Island of Jersey hits 115 Defibrillators

JUNE 2011

Jersey now has 115 defibrillators across the island and is one of the most HeartSafe® places to be in the British Isles. This fantastic news was announced last month as a result of a kind donation from a local benefactor.

The 100th defibrillator was donated to the Jersey Scout Association. Pictured below is Island Commissioner Helen Woolsey receiving the donated defibrillator from Nigel Truscott, Deputy Commander of St John Ambulance in Jersey, outside The Scout Centre in St Ouen, Jersey.

Helen said "This is a wonderful donation that will be located at the Jersey Scout Centre on the Five Mile Road. We are pleased to be able to support the community, giving coverage in this part of Jersey and increasing awareness of our members and visitors about the improtance of defibrillators in saving lives."

Pictured below is our map of Jersey - the hearts show the location of each of the defibrillators - click here to see the map in more detail.

Since 2001, St John Ambulance in Jersey has worked with local businesses and communities to install life-saving equipment across the island. As a result there are now 115 public access defibrillators on the island of Jersey in banks, shops, colleges and other public places such as hotels, Jersey Harbour, Elizabeth Castle – to name but a few. The St John Ambulance team in Jersey has trained hundreds of local people in how and when to use a defibrillator and there have been several occasions when the devices have been used to save a life.

“This marvellous donation continues to make Jersey one of the most heart attack aware places in Great Britain” says Nigel Truscott, Deputy Commander of St John Ambulance in Jersey. "We are aiming to achieve a goal of accessibility to a defibrillator as past experience has shown the importance of these life-saving devices being deployed during the first few minutes of a Sudden Cardiac Arrest. We are delighted to be working with the team at AED Locator (E.U.) Ltd to help increase the awareness of Jersey’s defibrillators. It’s important that people living on or visiting the island know the exact location of the defibrillators – and this website provides that facility”.
